Reflexes are quick, automatic responses of the body to certain stimuli without conscious thought. They help protect the body from harm and enable fast reactions to sudden situations. For example, when you touch something hot, your hand immediately pulls away without you thinking about it—this is a reflex action controlled by the nervous system. Reflexes can be innate (natural, like blinking when something comes close to the eye) or learned (developed over time, like catching a ball in sports). Strong reflexes are essential in activities requiring speed and coordination, such as driving, sports, and self-defense. They help improve reaction time and overall body efficiency.
